The original architecture of the existing shopping center included a wood clad canopy/signband and column covers, and, a sloping cedar shake canopy. The Project included façade renovations that maintained the structure of the existing canopy, converted the sloping canopy and low profile signband to an EIFS-clad box canopy with a larger signband to provide more visibility of the facades from E. 63rd Street. A unique challenge of the Project was a significant slope of the site across the building’s frontage. This was addressed with strategically locating ramps, stairs and sidewalk landscape features in order to create a pleasant and interesting environment while conforming to accessibility requirements. D.Z.A.’s services also included preparing various site plan layouts for several outlot parcels.
